Who we are

Bakvind operates the weather service at bakvind.no and the Android app Bakvind (package no.bakvind.bcpconfig). Contact us through the website if you have privacy questions.

What the Android app does

The app is a commissioning tool for Bakvind field nodes and LoRa gateways. It lets you sign in, find nearby devices over Bluetooth, read and write device settings, and install firmware over Bluetooth or USB.

Data we process

• Account login. Username and password are sent to bakvind.no over HTTPS. The password is not stored on the phone. A session token is stored on the device in encrypted Android storage until you log out.
• Guest codes. A guest code you paste is the access token. It is stored the same way until you log out or the code expires or is revoked.
• Device access list. After login the app fetches the node IDs your account may configure, so the scan list can show which nearby devices you can open.
• Firmware files. Images you download are stored on the phone so you can flash them later. They are not shared with third parties.
• Bluetooth. The app scans for Bakvind device names and connects over BLE to configure or update hardware you are next to. Scan is not used for advertising or location tracking. On Android 12 and newer the Bluetooth scan permission is declared as never used for location.
• USB. Optional. Used only to flash firmware onto a board you plug in.
• Website accounts and weather data. Portal accounts, stations, and ingested weather/system messages are stored on Bakvind servers to provide the service.

The app does not include ads, analytics SDKs, or crash reporters. We do not sell personal data.

Why we process it

To authenticate you, enforce which nodes you may configure, deliver firmware, and run the Bakvind weather service. Legal basis is performance of the service you signed up for, and legitimate interest in operating and securing the service.

Retention

Session tokens stay on the phone until logout. Server-side app tokens remain until you log out, the token expires, or it is revoked. Portal account data remains while the account is active. You can ask us to delete an account via the website.

Sharing

We do not share account or app data with advertisers. Hosting and database providers that run bakvind.no may process data solely to operate the site. We disclose data if required by law.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA/UK you may request access, correction, deletion, or export of your personal data, and you may complain to Datatilsynet. Use the Bakvind website to reach us.

Children

The app is intended for adults commissioning hardware, not for children.
