Model aircraft assessments

Model aircraft uses its own criteria and explanations. It tolerates more wind and gust spread than the paraglider profile, but does not use the same profile as normal aircraft.

This is a heuristic assessment, not a final answer. Local knowledge, pilot judgement, and a conservative safety margin should always carry more weight.

Icons and their meaning

Illustrations of the different states, not current weather readings.

Separate model-aircraft criteria, using the same icons as aircraft.

Stable / weak

Weak and stable wind, normally the calm kind of conditions you want.

Good launch wind

Steady wind and good direction for takeoff and landing.

Watch conditions

Usable, but keep an eye on wind speed, gusts, or direction.

Flyable but rough

Gusts or unsettled wind make conditions more demanding.

Avoid right now

Wind, direction, rain, or darkness suggest waiting.

Rain

Rain or wet conditions reduce visibility, comfort, and margins.

Night

Night or darkness without a relevant daylight assessment.

Waiting for data

Not enough fresh data to assess conditions.
